Review
"Now, I could tell you stories about Jerry, but Jerry is the first and best to tell them. He's funny and grumpy and perfectly inappropriate. When it comes to work, nobody works harder. When it comes to charities, nobody guilts better. And when it comes to friendship, he has no peers. That's Jerry's great talent. He doesn't just light up a room, he lights it on fire. He's a great producer, a great organizer, a great friend, and truly the greatest showman on earth."―George Clooney"Edgy and honest but refreshingly spare in his criticism of stars, colleagues and family . . . With a bold voice, a storied career, and a cast of superstars, Weintraub's memoir makes a rousing insider tour of some five decades in the entertainment industry."―Publisher's Weekly"As the title of the book indicates, Weintraub loves to talk. And the 72-year-old impresario has some amazing stories to tell . . . All the stories are told in Weintraub's shooting-the-breeze voice. Credit for the easy-to-read style goes to Rich Cohen, a contributing editor at Vanity Fair magazine who turned Weintraub's tales into a breezy first-person narrative."―Rick Warner, Bloomberg News"It reads at times like a screenplay: a rags-to-riches tale complete with stunning reversals of fortune, punchy dialogue, and star cameos galore . . . Even the lows are enviable."―Nathaniel Rich, VANITY FAIR"Jerry has made a fascinating career for himself by finding ways to put on a show and sell tickets at the door. Jerry has bloomed wherever he's been planted. His life has put him in the company of greats like Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, The Rat Pack, Robert Altman, and Steven Soderbergh, to name a few. Jerry's story chronicles his journey that involved a lot of improvising, love, and of course, luck. This story isn't just for music or movie lovers, or entrepreneurs....it's for everyone. So, pick up your copy of When I Stop Talking, You'll Know I'm Dead by Jerry Weintraub... If there was a Mount Rushmore of legendary show business figures, he'd be one of them."―Don Imus"When I Stop Talking is anything but a rote, let-the-record-show memoir . . . Although it's packed with stories he's surely been telling at dinner forever, the book is also a modest set of guidelines for how you too can be a successful mogul . . . it's written with stealth and style, doubtless shaped by his co-writer, Rich Cohen . . . The book, really, is a performance, a monologue by a guy comfortable hanging with Armand Hammer at Leonid Brezhnev's funeral or with Joey Bishop at a deli. It's a show based on horse pucky on braggadocio."―RJ Smith, LA Times"This is a guy who can tell a story. And boy does he have stories to tell."―People Magazine"Weintraub knows a thing or two about placing bets. And his latest venture sounds like a sure thing-an autobiography, pithily titled When I Stop Talking, You'll Know I'm Dead: Useful Stories from a Persuasive Man . . . [it's] a gripping personal story."―Entertainment Weekly"Old chestnuts from this journey are lovingly, and often hilariously, burnished in Weintraub's new memoir, When I Stop Talking, You'll Know I'm Dead . . . The book, which is in no way a scandalous, showbiz tell-all, but a good-humored, and often self-deprecating romp of outrageous will and amazing fortune, also paints a picture of uncanny bliss."―Nicole LaPorte, The Daily Beast

A very interesting read, and I liked it. Its something when you find you don't identify with someone nor feel inclined to like them very much, yet still take a profound interest in their story. Truly you'll either like Jerry or hate 'em, regardless there's a great story in this book, and he wouldn't care about your opinion of him either way. I don't know how people can be so condescending with there reviews, saying he does nothing but showboat and aggrandize himself. He tells his story in his own way, as he would talk to you about his life in person. People somehow get caught up vilifying him from some detail they didn't find honorable (braggart, egomaniac...) and end up missing the story which is quit engaging. Only four star because though I liked it, I didn't feel I'd reread it any time soon.
I buy a lot of Kindle books and don't finish reading many. But Jerry Weintraub has so much to say, in such an interesting way -- his experiences, recollections, and incredible roster of friends make this biography as educational as it is entertaining. This man had a LIFE. And he was married for 50 years to a most incredible songstress and actress, Jane Morgan. Check her out on YouTube. Now THAT was a generation. I would have loved to have known Mister Weintraub and envy those whose lives he touched. I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes to learn and laugh!
One of the best stories on ground up development of a business and networking empire that I've ever read. Jerry brings a candid and unselfish history of, what many of us know, his rise to becoming one of the most influential talent agents in the entertainment world. if you are new to networking or want a look at a real "whatever it takes" mindset...read this.
I had this book lying around in my car and this Saturday while going to shopping mall I decided to read a few pages before I go get stuff from the mall. However, once I started reading I couldn't put it down. The weather was hot soI had to just close it at one of the chapters and then go get my stuff and get back home and finish reading it.I loved the stories and one of the things I loved about Jerry is that he was honest at the same time a hustler who knew how to get things done!
I saw this on Tai Lopez's list of book recommendations. I loved what I read in the LOOK INSIDE option. So I immediately ordered it. A few hours later I look online and saw that earlier that morning Jerry Weintraub had passed. Damn. I love the stories. Great lessons to live and do business by, and be entertained all at the same time. Part of American culture is our entertainment industry and he was in the middle of it all from its glory days until now. Music, movies, T.V. and politics he did it all. He was around iconic crews like Elvis' Memphis Mafia and the Rat Pack. All the while being himself. He wasn't just in the business, he WAS the business. R.I.P Jerry.
An early morning tv appearance by the author was enough to get me to buy this book. Charming, attractive, and articulate Jerry Weintraub is his own best PR advance man.Happily, this book was all I expected and then some. Weintraub is a lot of things to a lot of people. A largely self-educated man who shrugged off college in order to move on with his life, he was an agent/entertainment manager who expanded his resume to also include movie and music producer and all around entertainment impressario. While this memoir abounds with a lot of personal information concerning his upbringing, two marriages, his children, the death of his parents, and his current domestic situation which includes a legal wife and the bonafide girl friend with whom he resides, Weintraub delves into a lot of stuff concerning his personal and professional relationships with some fairly prominent people who are or were household names. The names? Let's start with Elvis, Julia Roberts, George H.W. Bush, Jimmy Carter, Brad Pitt, George Clooney, and Cary Grant among others.....many others. Among my favorite celeb stories: Jerry's account of his firing by music legend and close friend John Denver and George Bush's getting Jerry membership into a 'restricted' tennis club in Kennebunkport. Neither story was flashy or explosive, but they were intimate and gave me a sense of what sort of person Weintraub is.This was a very readable book which exudes the author's formidable personality. It is lively and Weintraub doesn't overwork the written word. He's straightforward and interesting by nature and this book celebrates these qualities. Weintraub appears to be a happy man and it appears that he is never happier when he is busy and working. If you are fond of celebrity memoirs, you may find this book a good fit.
